About Creating a Mask with Marquee Tools ——————————————————————— You can create a mask in Photoshop with a variety of the tools made available. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create masks with the Marquee Tools. The Marquee makes a selection on your image in the form of a shape that can be manipulated or changed. When it comes to masking, these selections will make masks that can be added to, subtracted from or changed. Step 1: Create the Mask ——————————————————————— There are several uses for creating a mask. In this example, you can choose to isolate specific colors within an image. To do this: 1. Go to the Layer Menu and create a duplicate layer. Name this layer “Color.” Then rename the background layer as “B&W” (black & white). 2. Go to the Image menu at the top of the screen, select Adjustments from the list and select Hue/Saturation from the sub-menu. 3. You can now change image saturation as well as brightness and contrast. This will make the image black & white and more discernible from the color. 4. With the color layer selected, grab a rectangle Marquee Tool (from the Tool Bar in the leftmost side of the screen).
