Instead of using a circle, go to custom shapes and choose the icon that looks like a cricle, but that has a slightly bigger outline. When you’ve made this, click on the outer path and type.
Whether or not the text appears on the inside or on the outside depends on how the shape was defined. If it was defined CW (clock-wise), it will be on the outside. If CCW (counter clock wise) it will appear on the inside.
i managed to do it in cs3. can’t make it work on 7, though.
